Basics

Poland have 4 GSM-based network providers:

• Play (by P4, part of Iliad group)
• Orange (formerly IDEA)
• Plus (by Polkomtel, merged with Aero2)
• T-Mobile (formerly ERA)

More and more MVNOs and subsidiaries of the operators are arriving on the scene competing with four major operators and reselling their networks. The first 4 operators have pretty similar market shares around 25%. Their price battles have led to some of the lowest rates for mobile data in the world for the consumer, but also to congestion and slow speeds at peak times too.

Situation with 5G is very tricky - 5G works with Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS) mainly on 2100 MHz, which offers maximal speed of 300 Mbps but usually is even slower than LTE-A. In contrast to others, Plus/Aero2 works on TDD 2600 MHz, which now offers the fastest speeds (up to 600 Mb/s). Operators slowly opens 5G for prepaids with special, more expensive packages, and not all sub-brands and MVNOs have access to 5G.

What coverage is concerned T-Mobile and Orange are best sharing 12,000 transmitters in the country, followed by Play with 9,800 in 2022 and Plus on 4th position with only 8,500 antennas. Play also has roaming agreement with Orange, that are only available on some tariffs.

T-Mobile and Orange continues to show the best overall network quality in Poland, followed by Play, with Plus still trailing. 

Availability

SIM cards can be bought at many places: shops, kiosk, newsagents, petrol stations, tobacconists or the stores of the network operators.

Managing your account online may require some Polish language skills, as no English homepage is available (except Lyca Mobile which has website in English). You can try Google Translate for navigating their websites. Nevertheless, the many options that you have on a Polish SIM can be quite confusing to foreigners.

SIM cards are sold in all sizes. Prepaid still has about 50% share of the total market in Poland and is called Na kartę. Tethering and VoIP are available without any additional cost on all operators.

eSIM

The new eSIM functionality for prepaid users is supported by 2 operators: Plus (with Plush sub-brand) and Orange (with Flex, not nju so far). T-Mobile limits eSIM to postpaid customers and Play doesn't offer it at all. When you want to activate eSIM, first, you need to buy classic starter pack, register it and generate eSIM profile on operator website. Polish operators operates on GSMA standard, so all devices with eSIM will support it. But when you want to use additional SIM card (for example on smartwatch), only Orange Flex support it (Plus in deployment phase).

Top-ups and validity

All Polish operators decline credit or debits cards from out of the country for top-ups on their website. In Poland you should go to shops and kiosks instead that sell recharges (called doładowanie) all over starting at 5 zł. This ban makes it hard to keep a SIM card alive from out of the country as most SIMs need to be topped up once a year not to be suspended. Credit validity varies between providers and often depends on the top-up amount.

Two local Polish top-up sites have proven to accept foreign credit cards without surcharges:

• on the website http://doladowania.payu.pl/ payed by credit or debit card
• on the app or website: http://www.doladowania.pl/ by credit/debit card through MasterPass

So there should be no need to go to 3rd party sites paying high premiums.

Mandatory SIM card registration

Since July 2016 you are required to register your SIM card in order to use it. For registration you will need, an ID card (Polish, EU/EEA citizens only), passport or residence permit. In Poland they will rarely, but usually never accept a driving licence as proof of ID. The minimum age for registration is 13 years of age.

It's still possible to buy a prepaid starter set without showing your ID, however your SIM card won't be activated unless registered. Places where cards can be registered differ depending on the operator. Often some small kiosks sell SIM cards, but are unable to register them. That's why it's recommended to go directly to an operator's store instead, which are located in towns and shopping centers.

Furthermore, electronic markets, kiosks of the Ruch chain (locator) and many post offices sell and register SIM cards of all 4 providers and most MVNOs. For all operators maps of registration points are linked. More than 50 million prepaid SIMs in Poland have been registered in Poland in 2016/7 and all unregistered SIM cards have been shut off.

It is worth noting however, that it is possible and perfectly legal to use a SIM card registered to another person. The only law regulating prepaid SIM registration is Article 60b of The Telecommunication Act (Journal of Laws of 2004, No. 171, item 1800, as amended), which only enforces providers to collect personal information from entities who are a party to the Service Contract, that is who bought the prepaid SIM from the provider. Although such pre-activated cards can be found online on polish marketplace sites like Allegro, OLX and Lento, as reselling of those has not been prohibited, please be aware that the service could be suspended without any notice if the registree has too many active SIMs assigned to them. Moreover, you do not have any control over the balance withdrawals or any other aspect of the account, so do not use any 2FA on the given phone number. Using data only along with VoIP, topping up just the exact cost of the packet and blocking all inbound calls and text messages is advisable in this case.

2G/3G shutdown & VoLTE/VoWiFi

T-Mobile Poland announced that will shutdown their 3G network by end-2023 and will begin in 2021 by re-farming these frequencies for 4G/5G. Orange will shut down 3G by end-2025 and will start the process in 2023. Play has also confirmed, that they will shut off completely 2G and 3G by 2027. Plus also will shut down their 3G network, but there is no further information about time of disabling.

So, it will be good idea to use IMS services, such as VoLTE and VoWiFi, which are available for customers of these four operators (including sub-brands), but not for all MVNOs. You need to have compatible device (not always) and sometimes you'll need to activate it:

• T-Mobile has the widest list of supported devices (and even some not listed devices works). Activation can be done by sending SMS with TAK to 80535.
• Orange has a slightly smaller list of supported devices (expand Aktualna lista telefonów zgodnych z usługą WiFi Calling w Orange), but Orange is the only operator to actively block WiFi Calling and VoLTE on unlisted devices and WiFi Calling works only domestically in Poland on prepaid plans. Exception is Orange Flex - some unlisted devices works with IMS services and WiFi Calling works abroad. Note that Orange doesn't support SMS through WiFi. Orange will activate IMS services automatically on supported devices.
• Play has also wide list with working devices (expand Jakie telefony obsługują WiFi Calling?) and will activate automatically, when device support it.
• Plus, which deploys IMS services as the last operator, has the smallest list of supported devices (mainly Android devices, no iPhones so far). To activate, dial *101*11*1327#.

EU roaming

Poland is part of the EU, where from 2017 new international roaming rules have been enforced based on the 'roam like at home' principle. For specifics about the new regulation check European Union chapter and every provider below.

Most Polish operators now finally apply RLAH, up to the specified limit of data according to a strict Fair Use Policy (FUP). Some MVNOs (like a2mobile) have still opted out and surcharge all roaming data. Furthermore, surcharge-free allowances (see "EU cap" in the tables, general rule: 5 zł - 700 MB) are small, because of very low domestic rates and free top-up bonuses which can't be used for roaming. For overuse, when breaking FUP rules, the regulated EU FUP surcharge is charged. 

Furthermore, operators sometimes will require from you to prove "stable links" to Poland, especially when you are a foreigner. You'll need to show your passport/ID, residence permit and one of these documents: actual bill from some service, work permit, student card or your actual polish credit card. You'll be charged with FUP rules until you deliver these documents to operator.

After Brexit surcharge-free roaming on Polish providers in the United Kingdom and Gibraltar is coming to an end. All major operators have started to remove UK and Gibraltar out of their EU/EEA zone, but launched temporary promotions for lower data prices in the UK above EU regulated rates. Play, T-Mobile and Orange now charge extra for data in UK/Gibraltar at 29 zł per GB. Plus sticks to RLAH rules for an indefinite period, while most MVNOs still keep the UK and Gibraltar in their EU/EEA zone for the time being.

Data rollover

Due to fact, that most offers with data packages consists of two parts (bonus for top-up and data with no-limit package) it is possible to rollover your data. But take care that mostly only free bonus for top-up and some once-off packages (when you buy another before expiration of older) can rollover and free top-up bonus is used first.

Play

Play (owned by P4, now part of Xavier Niel's Iliad group), was historically the smallest of the 4 network operators in Poland. But with their aggressive marketing, Play finally moved to the 1st position in 2017/8 as far as number of subscribers is concerned.

By mid-2020, it had covered 98.7% of the population with 3G/UMTS, which is called "4G". LTE, which is called "4G LTE" by Play, covers 99% of population. "4G LTE Ultra" is an area where LTE Advanced is available (maximum speed: 600 Mbit/s) covering 91%. 5G is available on 2100 MHz (n1) frequency for prepaid plans, but you need special packages activated. 

Play has around 9500 of its own towers in the country, more than Plus. Play customers using most tariffs are allowed to roam for free on Orange 4G/LTE network in places without Play's own coverage. Roaming speed stays always limited to 3 Mbit/s for download and 1 Mbit/s for upload. Be aware that the budget Internet na Kartę tariff is excluded from all domestic roaming and stays on Play's own network only. National data roaming on Orange will end in 2025.

Play has one of the most confusing SIM card portfolios in Europe. They have different tariff lines with default rates. Their website contains a description of prepaid plans as well as instructions for choosing a plan, but lacks some packages offer or how to terminate a package.

Play na Kartę

Availability

Their SIM card can be bought at kiosks, petrol stations and other points of sale: Play Store Locator. If you want to be sure, that your SIM is registered at the point of sale, go to a branded Play store and show your ID. Registration takes place at all Play stores, Ruch kiosks and postal offices (see map).

Recharge vouchers are available at service stations, supermarkets, and many other places starting 5 zł up to 150 zł. To check balance, type *101#. To check internet allowcance, type *108#. You can also top-up by Google Pay or Apple Pay in Play24 app.

You can download the Play24 app for iOS and Android to manage your account and check balances.

Basic offer

Play na Kartę is their standard prepaid product line sold for 5 zł in a starter pack. You can change from any tariff to this one by typing *163*6#. Card is valid for 10 days. Default data rate is high 1.20 zł/MB.

Top-ups are from 5 zł valid for 50 days to 100 zł valid for 150 days. They don't include bonus data. You need to add a data package (see below).

Play na Kartę Rok Ważności Konta

With this tariff, you can get one year credit valid from 5 zł top-up. You can change from any tariff to this one by typing *163*2#. Default data rate is a high 1.20 zł/MB. You need to add a data package (see below).

FORMUŁA Play na Kartę

This tariff can be activated/changed by *163*10#. Default data rate is 0.20 zł/MB up to 5 zł (max. 25 MB), after speed throttled to 8 kbps. Top-ups are from 5 zł valid for 50 days to 100 zł valid for 150 days. They don't include bonus data. You need to add a data package (see below). 

Play na Kartę Lubię to!

This different product line can be used with the same starter pack. This tariff can be activated/changed by *163*7# and card is active for 10 days with 250 MB high-speed data for the start. Default internet is free, but capped at slow 32 kbps. To prolong, you have to recharge which gives you an included bonus for data:

Bonuses can't be used for international roaming. Top-up bonuses contain free Facebook and rollover (if you top-up, before end of old package). For more high-speed data you need to add a package (see below).

Play odNOWA

This plan caused a revolution in the Polish market when it was introduced in 2017. The starter pack is sold for 5 zł with the same allowance. All top-ups stay valid indefinitely as long as one paid activity/recharge is done per year. This plan has the highest rates. You can change to this plan by *163*20#.

All packages will also stay valid "forever" until they are used up. You can add bundles for voice and these two data packages:

• 1 GB (EU roaming: 700 MB) valid forever: 5 zł - activation: *111*842*1#
• 2 GB (EU roaming: 1.23 GB) valid forever: 9 zł - activation: *111*539*1#
• 6 GB (EU roaming: 3.48 GB) valid forever: 25 zł - activation: *111*843*1#

Check balances by *180#. Packages are more expensive than on other plans, but never expire. Overage fee is low 0.02 zł per MB. There is a fee of 3 zł charged in months without payed consumption. If you don't use the SIM card for 12 months, it will be terminated thereafter. Special EU roaming packages are sold for this plan that are valid indefinitely too (see EU roaming below).

There is also available special once-off all-in-one package for 10 days with unlimited calls, SMS and 10 GB (EU cap: 2.09 GB) for 15 zł. Activation: *111*209*1#.

All-in-one packages

These all-in-one packages with unlimited domestic calls and SMS (MMS also for Solo XL and Solo XXL) are available for all prepaid plans, all valid 30 days:

• Rodzina na kartę: 15 GB data (overuse = 1 Mbps/384 kbps, EU cap: 3.47 GB) per user, valid 30 days. The cost depends on the number of connected numbers, 25 zł per one, the person who creates the group pays. To activate, send SMS START.979 to 111. Next add a number, by sending DODAJ phonenumber to 258. You can create the group with max. 8 users.

(#) - package also available for RedBull Mobile, contains 1000 mins to Ukraine.

These packages are also extend validity of your account (if you have less than 30 days) to valid of your package. Solo XL and Solo XXL packages include also access to Play's 5G network on 2100 Mhz (n1) frequency.

Internet na Kartę 2.0

Remember that users of data-only have access to Play's own network only - unlike to the other tariffs, there is no domestic roaming available on this plan (see above). Their product line Internet na Kartę 2.0 has the cheapest domestic data. This prepaid plan can be changed from FORMUŁA Play na Kartę by calling *163*21#. 

It comes in different starter packs with an allowance for the start with only-SIM or with dongle:

• free: Starter 500 MB and 1 zł valid for 3 days
• 5 zł: Starter 7 GB and 5 zł valid for 7 days
• 5 zł: Starter 15 GB and 5 zł valid for 7 days (exclusively available in Żabka stores)
• 9 zł: Starter 10 GB and 9 zł valid for 7 days
• 19 zł: Starter 30 GB with "unlimited" internet for week (FUP = 30 GB, EU cap: 2.34 GB) and 5 zł valid for 7 days
• 159 zł: Starter 10 GB + Huawei E5572Cs 4G WiFi
• 199 zł: Starter 7 GB + Alcatel Link Zone 4G WiFi

Default data rate is a very low 0.02 zł per MB but in EU/EEA data rate is 0.09 zł/MB. To add more data, you need to top-up these amounts, whereby you receive a bonus:

A 20% bonus to top up volume is given if you top-up online using www.doladowania.play.pl or Play24 app. All packages contain rollover if you top up before end of package. After expirity of your account validity, your unused credit will be automatically converted to the default per-MB data rate. This transfer is valid for 6 months. To check remaining data, call *107#.

Additionally so-called "unlimited internet packages" can be activated on Internet na Kartętariff line only:

• 10 GB (20 GB*) for a day (= 24 hours, in EU: 700 MB): 5 zł, activation: *111*1191*1#
• 30 GB (60 GB*) for a week (= 7 days, in EU: 2.78 GB): 20 zł, activation: *111*1192*1#
• 100 GB (200 GB*) for a month (= 30 days, in EU: 6.96 GB) + access to 5G: 50 zł, activation: *111*1193*1# (once-off), *111*1194*1# (recurring)

All "unlimited" add-ons are once-off (except monthly package, which also has recurring version, to stop replace 1 by 2 as last digit in the code). When you use all of your data (data from package + top-up bonus), your speed will be dropped to 1 Mbps/384 kbps.

Extending validity of your account

You can extend validity of your account (available for Play offers (except odNOWA) and RedBull Mobile):

​​​Red Bull Mobile

Red Bull Mobile is a joint venture between P4/Play and Red Bull energy drink. It's not a MVNO as it belongs to Play and sold at their stores as a different brand aimed at the urban youth. 

Availability

They offer free SIM cards in promotions, but there are two starter packs for 5 zł:

• SieMa na kartę (bonus 8 GB valid 10 days)
• SieMa na kartę PL (bonus 9 GB valid 10 days)

To manage your account you can use the same methods as for PLAY (see above). You can migrate to RedBull Mobile from Play's tariff for free. 

Base offer (SieMa na kartę)

To migrate to this tariff, call *163*99#. Default data is free, but speed is throttled to 32 kbps. Top-ups includes these bonus data:

To switch to this plan, call *163*66#. All top-ups are valid for 1 year and don't include bonus data. Default data is free, but speed is throttled to 32 kbps. You can buy these packages valid for 30 days:

All international roaming in this tarriff is blocked. Oficially data transmission works only on Play's own network, but in practice data in national roaming works as same as other voice tarrifs.

Fakt Mobile

Fakt Mobile is a new joint venture between Fakt, the leading tabloid newspaper in the country and P4, owner of Play. Fakt's 4G/LTE is limited to 70 Mbit/s download and 20 Mbit/s upload. 

Availability

Starter packs are available in many newspaper kiosks. They used to be given out for free, but since registration is enforced in Poland, you'll need to register to activate. Ask, if they can register there or go to any Play registration point instead (Play stores, Ruch kiosks or postal offices). Starter kit is sold for 5 zł with the same credit included valid for 30 days. Account can be managed by Play24.

To top-up, you can use any Play scratch card of 5, 10, 30 or 50 zł all valid for 12 months. SIM plan stays valid for 14 months. Check balance by *101#. 

You can use Play24 app to manage your account in Fakt mobile.

Data is free, but speed is throttled to 32 kbps. All of their packages are valid for 31 days:

EU roaming

You can use your data in EU/EEA zone up to roaming cap. For data use beyond this cap and all permanent roaming of more than 4 months an additional surcharge of 0.014 zł per MB (= 14.36 zł/GB) is applied. You can check remaining EU cap by calling *800#. Play released some data packages dedicated to EU/EEA roaming: 

• 500 MB: 9 zł, activation: *111*791*1# (odNOWA:*111*646*1#, Fakt: *111*613*1#)
• 1 GB: 15 zł, activation: *111*530*1# (odNOWA: *111*647*1#)
• 2 GB: 30 zł, activation: *111*648*1# (only for odNOWA)
• 3 GB: 50 zł, activation: *111*537*1# (odNOWA: *111*649*1#)

All packages are valid 14 days, except odNOWA plan which are valid indefinitely. To check remaining data, call *575#.

The United Kingdom and Gibraltar have been removed from Roam like at home countries after Brexit and now you'll be charged extra at 29 zł/GB.

From 2019 Play also offers data roaming packages outside their EU zone, all vaild for 14 days:

Orange Polska

Orange has good coverage in Poland. LTE is open for prepaid and covers already 99.85% of population in 2020 with speeds up to 600 Mbps. 5G is also available on 2100 MHz (n1) frequency but you'll need to have activated special packages.

Orange has biggest network sharing agreement in the country with T-Mobile called NetWorks! Both operators are building a common cellular network and subscribers can use both networks' base stations (that is not equal to domestic roaming, but basically Orange and T-Mobile subscribers are sharing the same antennas, but don't share frequences).

Orange na kartę

Availability

As your SIM card needs to be registered to be activated, buy the SIM in an official store or outlet. If you have bought it at other places, check this manual in English how and where to register.

The best way is to buy a Orange Free na kartę starter. This starter packs is sold at 5 zł with 6 GB included valid 14 days, at 7 zł with 7 GB included valid 30 days and at 20 zł with 50 GB included valid 14 days plus starter price as credit. The 5 zł starter pack in Żabka exclusively offers 15 GB valid 14 days. 

If it's not available you can buy any Orange prepaid starter like Yes or Smart plans for 5 zł. It contains 6 GB for 14 days plus the start-up credit, but this tariffs will be discounted and you'll be automaticly after activation moved to Orange Free. There is also available starter pack with -50% bez limitu on front for 5 zł. It has the same bonus (6 GB) but also more expensive prices for calls, SMS and data without packages.

Buy it in an Orange store or at a place where they can register it on your name. Many stores nationwide can do the registration for Orange. 

You can also transfer an nju SIM to Orange by texting FREE to 601, but you'll lose your credit.

Check your balance with *124*#. You can manage your account by free application Mój Orange.

Orange, in constrast to others, charges activation SMS as a normal outgoing SMS. Default rate for SMS is 0.20 zł (0.40 zł with some starter packs).

Recharges

Top-up vouchers are widely available in supermarkets, newsstands, petrol stations, grocery stores, ATMs, ticket vending machines. For top-up type: *125*<top-up code>#

If you used up allowances, you can activate 5 GB (EU cap: 590 MB) for 5 zł by sending PAKIET to 411. This package has same validity as top-up bonus.

If overuse data, speed will be throtted to 64 kbps (or package will automaticly renew if is available balance). You can deactivate speed limit (see above). Data can also roll-over with new package.  

Inactivity fee

Orange charges an inactivity fee of 5 zł after 31 days of inactivity. Activity is defined as using data with packages (included free top-up bonus), buying packages, making calls or sending SMS/MMS, but any top-up isn't counted. This payment of 5 zł renews every 31 days and you should better run down your balance to zero before pausing or use a different provider for longer periods of inactivity.

Zawsze bez limitu (Always unlimited)

There are another rules to normal prepaid line. The starter pack cost 5 zł (with Zawsze bez limitu po doładowaniu on front) or you can move your existing SIM card by calling *130*11#. To change tariff you must have 5 zł or more in your account, but if you buy a new starter pack, you must top-up at least 5 zł to activate it. 

All your current balance and future top-ups is converting to unlimited days. Basic rule is: 1 zł = 1 day of unlimited calls, SMS/MMS (domestic only) and 500 MB (with 90 MB EU cap). These top-ups are available:

If you used up days, you'll have 30 days to top-up, after your SIM card will be terminated. In this tariff you can't activate all packages with data or calls (also Elastyczny Pakiet Internetowy). You can activate additional 5 GB by sending SMS with PAKIET to 80175 for 5 zł. You'll be charged from unlimited days or balance (if it's enough).

You can migrate to Orange Free na kartę by calling *130*12#. All your unused days have been converted to normal balance. 

Orange Flex

Orange's new plan Flex was launched in May 2019 and offers subscription plans in app. The app is available in English too.

Activation

To get the SIM card, first download free app available on Google Play and App Store. Then create a personal account, click on Wybierz swój plan (choose your plan) and click on Nie, chcę wybrać nowy numer (no, I want new number). Click on Nie, zamów kartę SIM (no, I don't have SIM card) and choose delivery. The best option is delivery to Orange shop, but if you have a device, which supports eSIMs, you can add it as eSIM card. There is also available starter packs in same shops as normal starter packs (for 3 zł). After click Tak, mam kartę SIM (yes, I have SIM card) and scan QR code. Next verify your identity by taking photo of your ID and photo with your face. After verification photos will be deleted. Next you can choose to receive information about your account. Next accept regulations and verify your account. Then link your credit card to app (foreign cards are accepted) and activate your plan by pressing Aktywuj teraz! (activate now). Orange also publics video on YouTube , which shows steps to activate it. You can also transfer your Orange SIM, but you can't go back easily - port your number to another operator and migrate to Orange after. 

Application language will automatically set based on system, but you can change it by Ustawienia and Język.

Plans

These plans are valid for 30 days and all include unlimited calls, SMS and MMS: 

• 25 zł: 15 GB (EU cap: 3.48 GB)
• 30 zł: 30 GB (EU cap: 4.18 GB)
• 35 zł: 45 GB (EU cap: 4.88 GB) + 5G
• 50 zł: 80 GB (EU cap: 6.96 GB) + 5G
• 80 zł: 150 GB (EU cap: 11.14 GB) + 5G

From 35 zł plan, access to 5G network on 2100 MHz (n1) frequency is included. 

If overused, your speed will be throttled to 64 kbps. You can migrate to bigger package or buy data feature packages: 

• 1 GB (420 MB in EU) - 3 zł
• 5 GB (1.4 GB in EU) - 10 zł
• 10 GB (2.09 GB in EU) - 15 zł

You can give part of your internet package to another person with Orange Flex, but you can't share all of your data (it must be 1 GB remaing data left).

All packages include a Social Pass, which you can use Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, Twitter, Pinterest, Messenger, WhatsApp, Viber, Telegram and ParrotOne without debiting your data (includes also VoIP and pictures/images/videos on apps). You can also add another passes to your account, which can be used only in Poland:

• Music Pass: Tidal, Deezer, Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Music, Polskie Radio, OpenFM - 5 zł/30 days (EU cap: 700 MB)
• Video Pass: YouTube, Netflix, HBO Max, vod.pl, Orange TV Go, WP Pilot, TVP VOD, TVP Sport, Player, Ipla, Canal+, TVP Stream, CDA Premium, PolandIN, TVP Info - 5 zł/day (EU cap: 700 MB), 10 zł/7 days (EU cap: 1.4 GB), 20 zł/30 days (EU cap: 2.79 GB)
• Game Pass: Twitch, Discord, Pokemon Go, Clash Royale, Harry Potter Wizards Unite, World of Tanks Blitz - 1 zł/day (EU cap: 140 MB), 5 zł/7 days (EU cap: 700 MB), 10 zł/30 days (EU cap: 1.4 GB)

Passes works also, when you run out of data. Orange Flex app can be used for free (without debiting your data or if you run out of data), also in roaming.

You can buy an additional SIM card with the same number for free. You can choose, which type of card want you - normal SIM card or data-only SIM. Additional SIM card can be eSIM for all the iOS or Android devices, incl. Apple Watch or Samsung Galaxy smartwatches. Due to this fact, that SIM shares plan and mobile number with main SIM card, additional SIM card doesn't work in roaming.

You can terminate your plan by pressing Zakończ mój plan. For 6 months your numer will be blocked, but you can re-enact your subscription. After that your SIM card will be terminated. 

nju mobile

Nju mobile is the second brand of Orange in Poland and like Plush by Plus aimed at young people. It's not a MVNO, but an Orange subsidiary.

Availability

Starter packs in mini and micro sizes are available in all Orange stores and further outlets. There are starters for 4, 5 or 20 zł, each with the same credit pre-loaded valid for 30 days. Do the registration there (registration points).

Starters are from 4-20 zł giving different amounts of bonuses depending on promotion. You will normally end up with some GB and some more zł even on the smaller starter packs. 4 and 5 zł starter packs include 10 GB valid 15 days. You can also transfer an Orange SIM to nju by texting NJU to 601.

You can top-up nju mobile with regular Orange vouchers but you have to type *128*<top-up code># (on vouchers are only information for regular Orange top-up rules). 

Nju is one of the few brands whose topped up credit stays valid forever. You are only supposed to make one recharge per half year or respond to warning SMS (you'll receive it in 187 days after top-up) by texting TAK to 80608 to keep your SIM plan alive. By responding NIE, your number will be deactivated in next day and you'll lose your allowcances.

Check balance by calling *127*1#. You can manage your account by application, available in Google Play (not for iOS devices). 

Voice and data SIM

Default rate without a daily or weekly plan or a data pack is 0.19 zł per MB. Nju has daily and monthly combo plans with calls, texts and data:

• daily plans (based on one calendar day): wszystko komórkowe: 250 MB per day (170 MB in the EU), unlimited  calls and SMS capped at 1.20 zł. Activation: *127*67# or free SMS START to 80225 (activation: 6 zł). For more data you can add the 9 GB package (see below). Activation costs 6 zł. 
• monthly plans for 30 days:
  • Rozmowy za nie więcej niż 19 zł: included unlimited calls only capped at 19 zł. Data can be added for another 19 zł: 3 GB (in EU: 2.65 GB). Activation: *127*66# or free SMS START to 80223.
  • Wszystko komórkowe: 10 GB per month (4.04 GB in the EU) and unlimited calls and SMS/MMS to Poland and the EU: 29 zł. Activation: *127*63# or free SMS START to 80224. 

In packages, you'll be charged at default rates up to specific limit. So if you don't use, you don't pay.

If overuse, speed will be throttled to 64 kbps. You can deactivate speed limit, by sending text START to 80605. All data will be charged at default rate. You can also come back to speed limit, by sending STOP to 80605. 

Data feature package

NJU offers a 9 GB data package (capped at 1.26 GB in the EU) for 9 zł with full LTE speed. This can be activated by *127*69# or texting 'AKT' to 80355. Check package balance by *127*69*1#. This package is for 31 days and will not auto-renew. You can activate 9 GB only, if you didn't use package in plans or if you use up allowances. Package can rollover, if you buy new one before end of validity an older. 

"Im dłużej tym lepiej" (= the longer the better)

This promotion can be activated, by sending a SMS with the word 'START' for 80510. The amount of GB depends on how long you have stayed with the network:

• from 6 months to 1 year: double data
• from 1 year to 2 years: 2.5 times data
• from 2 years: triple data

Package cost and EU cap don't change. The promotion does not apply to the 9 GB package.

EU & Ukraine roaming

Orange don't charge additionally, when you use data up to given cap (mentioned in the article according to this list ). For data use beyond this cap and all permanent roaming of more than 4 months an additional surcharge of 0.014 zł per MB (= 14.36 zł/GB) is applied. You can check remaining EU cap by sending SMS with ILE to 8095. You can also buy a 1 GB roaming pack for 7 days at 15 zł. To activate, dial *130*31#. 

Be aware, that roaming on Ukrainian networks applies only for data and only for normal prepaid line - Orange Flex is excluded.

The United Kingdom and Gibraltar have been removed from Roam like at home countries after Brexit and now in prepaid you'll be charged extra at 29 zł/GB.

In roaming you can use 5G in Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Finland, France, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Portugal and in some non-EU countries.

Plus (by Polkomtel)

Plus (formerly Plus GSM) is the brand name of Poland's mobile phone network operator Polkomtel. The company is entirely owned by Spartan Capital Holdings sp. z o.o.

Plus has a good coverage throughout the country on 2G and 3G while their 4G/LTE (called LTE PLUS) network already covers 99% right now and speeds up to 150 Mbps. LTE-Advanced (called LTE PLUS ADVANCED) is available for 73% of Polish population, is open for prepaid with speeds up to 600 Mbps. 5G in Plus is available for prepaid customers, but you need to activate special package. Plus is the local Vodafone partner.

Plus na kartę

Availability

To register you need to go to a store of the operator (locator) and show your ID or ask at a kiosk before buying, if they are able to register it on a foreign passport. Starters are sold from 5 zł with different bonuses and credits (see below).

Plus offers additional registration at 1,300 Plus or Cyfrowy Polsat outlets, 270 Neonet shops, 1,800 Ruch kiosks, 4,600 post offices and many other points shown on this map.

Top-ups are available at Plus stores, service stations, kiosks, grocery stores or online using credit cards. To top-up by vouchers, type *123*<voucher PIN>#. To check balance and validity, type *100#.

Starter packs

Plus sell these two major options: 

• Prosto na Kartę (= Basic prepaid): for 5 zł
• Elastyczna na kartę (= Elastic prepaid) with three other starter packs: 
  • for 5 zł: with 6 GB valid 15 days (with Bez Limitu or Do 100 GB on front) and 1 zł credit

Inactivity fee

Plus/Plush charges an inactivity fee of 3 zł after 30 days without any activity (using paid packages, top-up, using with standard rates, buying packages) per month.

EU roaming

You can use all data up to the cap, which is given based on cost of package showed in this document (general rule: 5 zł - 580 MB), but if overuse or break FUP rules, you'll be surcharged 14.36 zł per GB. 

You can still buy these special roaming packages valid in EU/EEA, UK, Switzerland, Turkey and USA (on both T-Mobile US and AT&T):

T-Mobile Polska

T-Mobile in Poland has the best coverage in Poland on 2G, 3G and 4G/LTE. 4G/LTE is open for prepaid and covers 99.7% of population in 2017 already. On the majority of 4G base stations LTE Advanced is available to compatible devices at no extra cost. LTE-A in a T-Mobile can offer up to 700 Mbit/s of download speed. T-Mobile also offers 5G network on 2100 MHz (n1) frequency, but have to activate selected package.

Before 2011 it used to be a second operator in Poland, but after rebranding to "T-Mobile.pl" (from "Era") and during period with disappointing offers compared to other operators, it started losing customers. Currently it has least market share.

It has the biggest network and most extensive coverage in Poland. T-Mobile has a union with Orange Polska to improve infrastructure called NetWorks! - T-Mobile and Orange are building cellular network together, but don't share frequencies. That subscribers can use both networks base stations (that is not equal to domestic roaming, but basically T-Mobile and Orange subscribers are using the same antennas).

SuperNet Video offers unlimited data transmission for YouTube, Netflix, TikTok, Polsat Box Go, Amazon Prime Video, TVP Sport, wyborcza.pl, vod.pl, Player, Google Play Video, WP Pilot, TVP Info, TVP VOD, TVP Stream, Chili, Poland In, Twitch and HBO Max in apps (when you use these apps in web browser, your transmission will be counted from your data allowcance). It offers two variants, depending of quality of streaming:

• DVD (480p, max. 1.5 Mb/s) for 5 zł (710 MB in EU) - activation: *520*1*1# or SMS AKTDVD to 8060

T-Mobile every Friday offers free bonuses for Mój T-Mobile app users. Sometimes you can earn free data, free international calls, top-up bonuses, etc. This promotion applies to GO! tarrif.

Heyah is a long established subsidiary of T-Mobile. 

Availability

Heyah prepaid SIM cards are available for 5 zł (or discounted for 3 zł) including the same credit valid for 7 days at T-Mobile stores and many other places. Better go to a T-Mobile store for registration. 

You can also transfer your T-Mobile SIM (from Frii) by calling *100*812#. Change tariff cost 3 zł. 

To manage your account in Heyah, you can use Moja Heyah application available in Google Play . 

Top-ups can be made by T-Mobile vouchers or online. To top-up by voucher, type *109*<PIN code>#, check balance by *108#. 

Default data rate is 0.25 zł/MB. Better option is buy data feature package.

Any renew of the package extends the SIM validity for 60 days (+ 31 days in passive mode). Top-up can't extend the validity.

tuBiedronka is another long established subsidiary of T-Mobile. Biedronka is the largest supermarket chain in the country.

Availability

tuBiedronka prepaid SIM cards are available for 4 zł including the 5 zł credit valid for 14 days at T-Mobile stores and Biedronka shops. You can register your SIM card in a Biedronka or in a T-Mobile store. 

Top-ups can be made in Biedronka shops (for 5 zł (5 days), 10 zł (21 days), 20 zł (45 days), 30 zł (60 days)). To top-up by voucher, type *111*<voucher code>#, check balance by *101#. 

Default data rate is 0.10 zł/MB. 

Top-up bonus

To activate top-ups bonus, call *140*730*2#. Top-ups include these bonusses (all valid 30 days and includes roll-over, if you top-up before expiration of package): 

• top-up: 20-29.99 zł: 5 GB bonus 
• top-up: >30 zł: 10 GB bonus 

Bonuses can't be used for roaming. Bonus works on 2G and 3G network only. You can activate data feature packages, valid 30 days, works on 4G/LTE:

EU roaming data is free up to the RLAH cap (mentioned in the article according to this list ). For all data use beyond this cap and all permanent roaming of more than 4 months an additional surcharge of 0.014 zł/MB (= 14.36 zł/GB) is applied. In some offers like Internet na kartę blueconnect roaming may be disabled - to activate, call *132*5*1#. 

When you have access to 5G network (with Bez Limitu XL package), you can use 5G in Germany (Deutsche Telekom) and in Austria (Magenta).

T-Mobile also sells "Travel & Surf" roaming packs as add-ons to all sub-brands (not GO! tarrif), that include the non-EU countries of Albania, Montenegro and Macedonia, UK as well as all of EU/EEA (for activation text code to 80717):

Lyca Mobile

The UK-based operator Lyca Mobile opened its Polish branch in 2011. It's operating as MVNO on the Plus network in 2G, 3G, 4G/LTE and 5G and speeds up to 600 Mbps. For coverage check Plus (see above). Lyca Mobile now routes signal through the Plus server with much better routing.

Availability

Their SIM cards are available for free in micro-, mini- or nano size in their outlets. They have many agencies around the country in newsstands, kiosks, supermarkets and online sent to a Polish address. But better buy it in one of their sales outlets, where they can register it on your name.

Top-ups can be purchased there as well in 5, 10, 20, 30, 50 and 100 zł denominations. You are expected to make a top-up right away, as the SIM doesn't include credit. Account is valid 90 days after done any activity, but it can be extended to 1 year for 25 zł by calling *139*9999#. 

Top-ups are also available online. Foreign credit cards are accepted. The website has an English option too. When topping up, you will be asked for an ID number and a local address. The ID can be a PESEL (Poland national ID) or any other ID. You can use your passport number and your hotel address.

Default data rate is 0.21 zł per MB. You need to have at least 0.21 zł to use internet.

a2mobile

In 2018 Premium Mobile bought a2mobile from Cyfrowy Polsat.

Premium Mobile is a MVNO running on Plus/aero2 network in 2G, 3G, 4G/LTE and 5G (in selected plans) up to 600 Mbps, which offers contracts for an indefinite period, but is not available for tourists. a2mobile is a prepaid offer of Premium Mobile.

Availability

The SIM starter packs is available online and at some stores (locator ). The SIM can be registered at these points too. They sell a starter pack for 10 zł valid for 1 year with 10 zł pre-loaded.

To top-up you can use any Plus and a2mobile voucher. To top-up with an a2mobile voucher, enter *111*<voucher code>#, to top-up with a Plus voucher, enter *123*<voucher code>#. All top-ups are valid for one year. To check balance, call *111#. There is available free app, called moje.a2mobile. Is available on Google Play (not for iOS devices so far).

Klucz mobile

Klucz mobile is another MVNO on the Plus network (see above). It started in 2013 and has cheap international call rates and data too. 2G, 3G, 4G/LTE and 5G is accessible for users.

Availablility

Their SIM card may be hard to find. Only Teletorium phone stores sell it.

The starter pack is available for 10 zł and can be registered in these points and in Plus/Cyfrowy Polsat stores. Credit after any top-up stays alive for 360 days.

To change service language to English, compose USSD code *105*20# and wait for confirmation SMS.

Virgin Mobile

Virgin Mobile started as MVNO in Poland in 2012. It uses the Play network on 2G, 3G and 4G/LTE up to 70 Mbit/s where available (with national roaming up to 3 Mbit/s). Virgin Mobile uses its own billing system and IP backbone.

Availability

Their starter packs are available online or in a lot of stores: Virgin Mobile Store Locator for 5 zł. Better go to a store, where they can register it on your name.

Top-ups can be made online after registration by international credit card or PayPal too. Special Virgin mobile top-up vouchers (called Telekod) are available at supermarkets. Play vouchers don't work for Virgin, even though the top-up command *100*<code># looks the same. Credit stays alive for one year. Check balance by *101#.

You can manage your account by free app, called "Klub Virgin". Is available on Google Play, App Store and Microsoft Store.

In bonus after registration of card, you can get 100 GB up to 31.05.2021 for free by calling *222*100#.

EU roaming

Virgin Mobile in Poland now finally applies "roam like at home" in prepaid plans (details in this document). If overuse, you'll be charged at 0.014 zł/MB (= 14.36 zł/GB). There are also roaming packages (valid for 30 days) available for EU/EEA roaming, but they are too much overpriced (it's better to stay on default FUP rate):

• 1 GB, 39 zł - activation: *222*5*1#
• 2 GB, 69 zł - activation: *222*5*2#

The UK and Gibraltar are not included in their surcharge-free EU roaming zone anymore and you'll be charged extra at 29 zł per GB.

PolishWiFi

PolishWiFi rents pocket WiFi routers which allow travellers to stay connected in Poland. 

Clients can book online and their hotspot can be delivered everywhere in Poland in 24 hours. Standard delivery in Poland to a post box is 3 €, to a private address, hotel, B&B or airport is 4 €.

The 4G and 4G+ hotspot routers can be shared by up to 10 devices and battery lasts for 6-12 hours.

A prepaid envelope is given for the return and can be used from everywhere in Poland. 100 € for a 4G device (or 200 € for 4G+ device) is charged from your credit card, if you don't return or damage the device. The rental rates:

4G Hotspot works on Play's network, 4G+ works on all Polish mobile networks. FUP for the "unlimited" plan in Poland is 100 GB per month for 4G router and 200 GB per month for 4G+ router. Speed will be throttled beyond to:

• 4G+ device: 5 Mb/s for next 300 GB, and afterwards to 1 Mb/s
