Basics

Poland have 4 GSM-based network providers:

• Play (by P4)

• Orange (formerly IDEA)

• Plus (by Polkomtel, merged with Aero2)

• T-Mobile (formerly ERA)

Another operator Nordisk is on GSM-incompatible CDMA 420 MHz reaching 95% of the Polish population with up to 3.1 Mbps speed. This band is not compatible with usual CDMA-phones either and only works with devices specifically designed for CDMA 420.

More and more MVNOs and subsidiaries of the operators are arriving on the scene competing with four major operators and reselling their networks. The first 4 operators have pretty similar market shares around 25%. Their price battles have led to one of the lowest rates for data in the EU for the consumer, but to congestion and slow speeds at peak times too.

Frequencies, coverage and network quality

GSM up to EDGE is on 900 and 1800 MHz like all over Europe. 3G/UMTS covers all of the country on 900MHz up to HSPA+ and 2100 MHz up to DC-HSPA+ speed available in most of the country. 4G/LTE has been rolled out on 800, 900, 1800, 2100, 2600 MHz frequency (= bands 1, 3, 7, 8, 20, 38) frequency. 

5G is planned to deploy in the second half of 2020 in 3,4 - 3,8 GHz and 700 MHz (by #Polskie5G company) frequency, but Play will start deploy 5G in the half of 2020 on 2100 MHz frequency (previously used on 3G and 4G) in Tri-City. 

There is also a map of all base stations by all carriers in Poland together with the frequency they are transmitting at (change data source on UKE). If you know where you will be located, you can check this map and see which carriers have base stations closest to you.

What coverage is concerned T-Mobile and Orange are best sharing 11,000 transmitters in the country, followed by Plus/Aero2 with 9,500 in 2017. Play is in 4th position with only 7,200 antennas, but compensates this lack by roaming agreements with the other 3 providers, that are only available on some tariffs and coming to an end soon.

Play continues to show the best overall network quality in Poland, followed by T-Mobile and Orange, with Plus still trailing, according to the latest tests by speedtest.pl  published every month.

Availability

SIM cards can be bought at many places: shops, kiosk, newsagents, petrol stations, tobacconists or the stores of the network operators.

Managing your account online may require some Polish language skills, as no English homepage is available. You can try Google Translate for navigating their websites. Nevertheless, the many options that you have on a Polish SIM can be quite confusing to foreigners.

SIM cards are sold in all sizes. Prepaid still has about 50% share of the total market in Poland and is called Na kartę. Tethering and VoIP are available without any additional cost on all operators.

Top-ups and validity

All Polish operators decline credit or debits cards from out of the country for top-ups on their website. In Poland you should go to shops and kiosks instead that sell recharges all over starting at 5 PLN. This ban makes it hard to keep a SIM card alive from out of the country as most SIMs need to be topped up once a year not to be suspended. Credit validity varies between providers and often depends on the top-up amount.

Two local Polish top-up sites have proven to accept foreign credit cards without surcharges:

• on the website http://doladowania.payu.pl/ payed by credit or debit card
• on the app or website: http://www.doladowania.pl/ by credit/debit card through MasterPass

So there should be no need to go to 3rd party sites paying high premiums.

Mandatory SIM card registration

Since July 2016 you are required to register your SIM card in order to use it. For registration you will need, an ID card (Polish, EU/EEA citizens only), passport or residence permit. In Poland they will rarely, but usually never accept a drivers license as proof of ID. The minimum age for registration is 13 years of age.

It's still possible to buy a prepaid starter set without showing your ID, however your SIM card won't be activated unless registered. Places where cards can be registered differ depending on the operator. Often some small kiosks sell SIM cards, but are unable to register them. That's why it's recommended to go directly to an operator's store instead, which are located in towns and shopping centers.

Furthermore, electronic markets, kiosks of the Ruch chain (locator) and many post offices sell and register SIM cards of all 4 providers and most MVNOs. For all operators maps of registration points are linked. More than 50 million prepaid SIMs in Poland have been registered in Poland in 2016/7 and all unregistered SIM cards have been shut off. Better stay away from Polish SIM cards sold on the internet on someone else's name as they can be suspended when detected.

EU roaming: No roam like at home?

Poland is part of the EU, where from 2017 new international roaming rules have been enforced based on the 'roam like at home' principle. For specifics about the new regulation check European Union chapter and every provider below.

Unfortunately, Polish providers have been mostly exempt from EU rules. Three major operators apply some surcharges even on the "roam like at home" (RLAH) allowance. Only Plus now don't apply surcharges for prepaid users. Most MVNOs don't offer surcharge-free EU roaming at all. Furthermore, the RLAH limit is very small, because of very low domestic rates and free top-up bonuses which can't be used for roaming without fee. For overuse, when breaking FUP rules or using an operator which doesn't offer RLAH, FUP surcharge is charged.

Be aware that when we talk about a "EU roaming cap" or "Roam like at home allowance" included in Polish plans. This is very small and will be surcharged unlike in other countries of this wiki. Polish EU roaming rates are now more expensive than in neighboring countries and it doesn't pay off to take a Polish SIM card for roaming to another EU country.

Play

Play, owned by P4, used to be the smallest of the 4 network operators in Poland. But their aggressive marketing, Play finally moved to the 1st position in 2017/8 what number of subscribers is concerned.

By the half of 2018 it had covered 97.4% of the population with 3G/UMTS on 900 and 2100 MHz. LTE is called according to Play "4G LTE" and it's operating on 800, 1800, 2100 and 2600 MHz. Play Coverage Map (click on "internet". Here it shows "4G/LTE" which is UMTS and LTE combined! The bright purple area is 3G/HSPA+, only the dark purple 4G/LTE.) covering 98% of population. "4G LTE Ultra" is an area that on LTE Advanced is available (maximal speed: 300 Mbit/s) covering 86.8%. From 1st March Play also starts with "5G READY" (=LTE-Advanced with QAM256, MIMO 4x4, phase synchonization and Cloud Air technology), which you can get over 900 Mbps in compatible devices , but coverage is very limited - 18%. Operator want to be first to offer commercial 5G network on 2100 MHz frequency in Tri-Citi in the half of 2020. 

Currently, Play has the best network quality in Poland - it builds modern network and improving it to get faster speeds. Where you can find Play, it usually offers good speeds, however coverage is very limited.

Play has only around 7000 of own towers in the country, less then the other 3 major operators. Play customers using most tariffs are allowed to roam for free on other Polish networks in places without own coverage. Now, you can roam to 4G/LTE on Orange network and on 3G network of T-Mobile. Roaming speed stays always limited to 3 Mbit/s for downloads and 1 Mbit/s for uploads. Be aware that the budget Internet na Kartę tariff remains excluded from all domestic roaming and stays on Play's more limited own network only (RedBull Mobile SieMa na kartę PL blocks data transmission and MMS on roaming partners, but voice and SMS works). Play is planned to disable national roaming by 2023, but from 2020 access to Plus network will be blocked in all of country (in new SIM cards Plus roaming is blocked by default). In Poznań, Kraków, Silesian Conurbation, Tri-City, Łódź and Wrocław access to roaming partners have been blocked. 

Play has one of the most confusing SIM card portfolios in Europe. They have different tariff lines with default rates. All tariff lines can be switched, but not to/from the cheapest rate called Play Internet na Kartę. Their English website contains an English description of some prepaid plans as well as instructions for choosing a plan, but lacks some packages offer or how to terminate a package, which is only available in Polish (description in Polish can also be very confusing).

Play na Kartę

Availability

Their SIM card can be bought at kiosks, petrol stations and other points of sale: Play Store Locator. If you want to be sure, that your SIM is registered at the point of sale, go to a branded Play store and show your ID. Registration takes place at all Play stores, Ruch kiosks and postal offices (see map).

Recharge vouchers are available at service stations, supermarkets, and many other places starting 5 PLN up to 150 PLN. To check balance, type *101#. To check internet allowcance, type *108#. You can also top-up by Google Pay or Apple Pay in Play24 app.

You can download the Play24 app for iOS and Android to manage your account and check balances.

Basic offer

Play na Kartę is their standard prepaid product line sold for 5 PLN in a starter pack. You can change from any tariff to this one by typing *163*6#. Card is valid for 10 days. Default data rate is high PLN 1.20 / MB.

Top-ups are from 5 PLN valid for 50 days to 100 PLN valid for 150 days. They don't include bonus data. You need to add a data package (see below).

Play na Kartę Rok Ważności Konta

Play na Kartę is this tariff, which you can get one year credit valid from 5 PLN top-up. You can change from any tariff to this one by typing *163*2#. Default data rate is high PLN 1.20 / MB and speed is limited to 15 Mbps. You need to add a data package (see below).

FORMUŁA Play na Kartę

This tariff can be activated/changed by *163*10#. Default data rate is 0.20 PLN/MB up to 5 PLN (25 MB) with speed up to 15 Mbps, after speed throtted to 8 kbps. Only one package is now offered:

• FORMUŁA UNLIMITED - unlimited calls, SMS, 6 GB with roll-over (EU cap: 2.10 GB), activation: *111*407*1#, deactivation: *111*407*2#. 

To restore full speed, buy data feature pack. 

Play na Kartę Lubię to!

This different product line can be used with same starter. This tariff must be activated/changed by *163*7# and card is active for 10 days with 250 MB high-speed data for the start. Default internet is free, unlimited, but capped at slow 32 kbps. To prolong, you have to recharge which gives you included bonus for data:

Bonuses can't be used for international roaming. Top-up bonuses contains free Facebook and rollover (if you top-up, befor end of old package). For more high-speed data you need to add a package (see below).

Data feature packages

These monthly data packs can be added (these packages are not available in Play odNOWA):

• 600 MB (in Play24: 1 GB, EU roaming: 420 MB): 5 PLN - activation: *111*541*1# for auto-renew, *111*531*1# for once or by Play24 app
• 1 GB (EU roaming: 590 MB): 7 PLN - activation: *111*540*1# (only auto-renew)
• 2 GB (in Play24: 3 GB, EU roaming: 760 MB): 9 PLN - activation: *111*542*1# for auto-renew, *111*532*1# for once or by Play24 app
• 3 GB (EU roaming: 920 MB): 11 PLN - activation: *111*553*2# (only auto-renew)
• 6 GB (in Play24: 8 GB, EU roaming: 1.68 GB) : 20 PLN - activation: *111*543*1# for auto-renew, *111*533*1# for once or by Play24 app

If you activate auto-renew package, you'll get bonus after renewal (extra 100 MB for 600 MB; extra 1 GB for 2 GB and 6 GB). Packages contains rollover, if you select auto-renew version. To stop, type code and replace 1 by 2 at last digit. To check consumption of the data package, type activation ending with *3#. 

All-in-one packages

These all-in-one packages with unlimited domnestic calls and SMS are available for all prepaid plans (except tariffs below):  

• Solo M: 10 GB data (overuse = cost depends on your tariff, EU cap: 2.58 GB) valid 30 days. 25 PLN. Activation: *111*978*1#. Deactivation: *111*978*2#. 
• Solo L: "unlimited" data (FUP = 15 GB after 1 Mbps/384 kbps, EU cap: 2.52 GB (free limit 500 MB)) valid 30 days. 30 PLN. Activation: *111*571*1#. Deactivation: *111*571*2#.
• Rodzina na kartę: "unlimited" data (FUP = 15 GB, after 1 Mbps/384 kbps, EU cap: 2.10 GB (free limit 500 MB)) per user, valid 30 days. The cost depends on the number of connected numbers, 25 PLN per one, the person who creates the group pays. To activate, send SMS START.979 to 111. Next add a number, by sending DODAJ phonenumber to 258. You can create the group with max. 8 users. 

These package are also extend validity of your account (if you have less than 30 days) to valid of your package. 

Play odNOWA

This plan caused a revolution in the Polish market when it was introduced in 2017. Starter is sold at 5 PLN with the same allowance. All top-ups stay valid indefinitely as long as one recharge is done per year. This plan have the highest voice & SMS rate. You can change to this plan by *163*20#.

All packages will also stay valid "forever" until they are used up. You can add bundles for voice and these two data packages:

• 1 GB (EU roaming: 0.42 GB) valid forever: 5 PLN - activation: *111*842*1#
• 2 GB (EU roaming: 0.59 GB) valid forever: 9 PLN - activation: *111*539*1#
• 6 GB (EU roaming: 2.10 GB) valid forever: 25 PLN - activation: *111*843*1#

Check balances by *180#. Packages are more expensive than on other plans, but never expire. Overage fee is low 0.02 PLN per MB. There is a fee of 2 PLN charged in months without payed consumption. If you don't use the SIM card for 12 months, it will be terminated thereafter. Special EU roaming packages are sold for this plan that are valid indefinitely too (see EU roaming below).

Internet na Kartę

Remember that users of Internet na Kartę have access to Play's own network only - unlike to the other tariffs, there is no domestic roaming available on this plan (see above). Their product line Internet na Kartę has the cheapest domestic data at slightly higher text rate. Default data rate stays at very low 0.02 PLN per MB. This prepaid plan can't be changed to other plans.

It comes in different starter packs with an allowance for the start with only-SIM or with dongle:

• for free: Wypróbuj 4G LTE Ultra with 451.83 MB and 1 PLN for 3 days
• 5 PLN: Starter 7 GB with 6.76 GB included and 5 PLN valid for 7 days
• 9 PLN: Starter 10 GB with 9.57 GB included and 9 PLN valid for 7 days
• 19 PLN: Starter 30 GB with "unlimited" internet for week (FUP = 30 GB, EU cap: 0.88 GB) and 5 PLN valid for 7 days
• 50 PLN: Starter "25 GB" with 3 GB included for 1 month + 11 times 2 GB per month (in EU: 260 MB per month) with rollover and 4.57 PLN included. 
• 159 PLN: Starter 5 GB + Huawei E5572Cs 4G WiFi
• 199 PLN: Starter 3 GB + Alcatel Link Zone 4G WiFi

Default data rate is a very low 0.02 PLN per MB but in EU/EEA data rate is 0.09 PLN/MB. To add more data, you need to top-up these amounts, which you receive bonus:

A 20% bonus to top up volume is given if you top-up online using www.doladowania.play.pl. All packages contains rollover, if you top-up, before end of package. 

Additionally so-called "unlimited internet packages" can be activated on Internet na Kartę tariff line only:

• "unlimited" internet for a day (= 24 hours) FUP = 10 GB (in EU: 0.42 GB): PLN 5, activation: *111*791*1#
• "unlimited" internet for a week (= 7 days) FUP = 30 GB (in EU: 1.68 GB): PLN 20, activation: *111*789*1#
• "unlimited" internet for a month (= 30 days) FUP = 100 GB (in EU: 4.12 GB): PLN 49, activation: *111*783*1#
• unlimited internet in night (30 days, 0:00 - 9:00, in EU: 0.42 GB): PLN 5, activation: *111*788*1#

All these "unlimited" add-ons auto-renew and must be stopped by replacing 1 by 2 as last digit in the code. "Unlimited" is limited by a FUP that throttles, if you exceed data to 1 Mbps/384 kbps. If your speed will be throttled, you can buy a NON STOP 5 GB package to restore full speed. Activation: *111*796*1# (5 PLN/5 GB, EU cap: 420 MB). 

You can also activate 24 GB na rok in this tariff. This package extend validity of your bonuses and credit to 1 year and you'll receive 2 GB per month (357 MB EU cap per month) up to 12 months. Bonuses rollover with new 2 GB package. Package cost is 50 PLN, but if you want activate it, you must have starter pack for 50 PLN or migrate from your current tariff to InK 50 PLN by calling *163*18#. To activate this package, call *111*794*1#. 

Note, if you want use this card SIM abroad, roaming is disabled by default. To activate, see below. 

Play NEXT

To get a NEXT SIM card, first download free app available in Google Play or App Store . Their app is geo-restricted and can only be found in the Polish Play and App stores. Then create a personal account and link it to you credit card (foreign cards are accepted). Choose your phone number and press Chcę ten numer! (for: I want this number). Then select delivery of the card. The best way is have it delivered to a Play shop. Bring your ID or passport to this store. You'll pay 5 PLN for start-up, which will be added to your account. At last scan QR code on your starter kit by app and enable subscription.

On NEXT only one monthly base plan is offered: 

• 45 PLN: including unlimited calls, SMS and MMS, 50 GB data in Poland (EU cap: 3.78 GB) for 30 days

In promotion, the first 3 months are discounted by 50%. You can suspend your subscription anytime, but then you can only receive calls and SMS. If you don't re-activate your subscription for 3 months, your SIM card will be terminated.  

If you overuse your data allowance, data will be cut off. To restore access to internet, you need to add 1 GB (170 MB in EU) for 2 PLN via the Play NEXT app. You can activate multiple packages this way. 

Your standing balance can be used for everything what is charged additionally like international calls, roaming or add-on packages. To add 10 PLN to your account, you can dial *110# or use Play NEXT app. 

​​​Red Bull Mobile

Red Bull Mobile is a joint venture between P4/Play and Red Bull energy drink. It's not a MVNO as it belongs to Play and sold at their stores as a different brand aimed at the urban youth. 

Availability

They offer free SIM cards in promotions, but there are two starter packs for 5 PLN (includes bonus 100 MB):

• SieMa na kartę
• SieMa na kartę PL

To manage your account you can use the same methods as for PLAY (see above). You can migrate to RedBull Mobile from Play's tariff for free. 

Base offer (SieMa na kartę)

To migrate to this tariff, call *163*99#. Default data is free, but speed is throttled to 32 kbps. Top-ups includes these bonus data:

SieMa na kartę PL

To switch to this plan, call *163*66#. All top-ups are valid for 1 year and don't include bonus data. Default data is free, but speed is throttled to 32 kbps. You can buy these packages valid for 30 days:

• unlimited domestic calls, SMS, MMS, 1 GB data in Poland: 19 PLN, activation: *111*968*1#
• 25 GB data in Poland: 20 PLN, activation: *111*969*1#.
• 50 GB data in Poland: 30 PLN, activation: *111*970*1#.

If overuse, speed will be throttled to 32 kbps. If you have a 50 GB bundle, you can buy additional 15 GB cost 10 PLN. To activate, use Play24 app. If overuse, data will be cut off!

Take care, this plan works only in Poland and data transmission and MMS are limited to Play's own network while calls and SMS work on national roaming too. All international roaming is blocked.

Data add-ons

Fakt Mobile

Fakt Mobile is a new joint venture between Fakt, the leading tabloid newspap

er in the country and P4, owner of Play. Fakt's 4G/LTE is limited to 70 Mbps/20 Mbps. 

Availability

Starter packs are available in many newspaper kiosks. They used to be given out for free, but since registration is enforced in Poland, you'll need to register to activate. Ask, if they can register there or go to any Play registration point instead (Play stores, Ruch kiosks or postal offices). Starter kit is sold for 5 PLN with the same credit included valid for 30 days. Account can be managed by Play24. In promotion, if you activate starter, you'll receive 20 GB valid 90 days. 

When you text 'BONUS1GB' to 4949, they'll give you 1 GB valid for 31 days as a starter bonus.

To top-up, you can use any Play scratch card of 5, 10, 30 or 50 PLN all valid for 12 months. SIM plan stays valid for 14 months. Check balance by *101#. 

You can use Play24 app to manage your account in Fakt mobile. 

Data feature packages

Data is free, but speed is throttled to 32 kbps. All of their packages are valid for 31 days:

To check data balance within packages, type activation code ending with *3 instead of *1. Using more data, speed will be throttled to 32 kbps. Packages are not auto-renewed. You can book multiple packages, even at the same time.  In promotion for holidays, you can activate 20 GB valid 30 days for 10 PLN. To activate, use Play24 app.  Data packages contains rollover (also holiday package). If you buy another package during the validity of last, data will rollover with new package. 

VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling

Play provides IMS services, which means that it's compatible with VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling. VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling now supports iPhone's, Samsung and some Huawei. However, VoLTE is not available in roaming partners in Poland & rest of world. These services are not available in Play Next. 

EU roaming (surcharges apply)

Play has received approval from the regulator to opt out from the Roam like at Home scheme and changed the rules for EU roaming again (see this site). From 1st January 2019 a surcharge of 0.0071 PLN/MB (= 7.32 PLN/GB) is now charged for any roaming data up to the EU FUP cap (mentioned in the article according to this list ) which is around 1 GB per 12 PLN sales price of the package. SOLO L, Rodzina na kartę, Play Next and RedBull Mobile SieMa 30 PLN plans have a free limit of 500 MB.

For data use beyond this cap and all permanent roaming of more than 4 months an additional surcharge of 0.022 PLN per MB (= 23.07 PLN/GB) is applied. You can check remaining EU cap by calling *800#. Play released some data packages dedicated to EU/EEA roaming (not available for the Play na kartę odNOWA plan, Play NEXT and Fakt Mobile, all valid 14 days): 

• 500 MB: 11 PLN, activation: *111*791*1#
• 1 GB: 20 PLN, activation: *111*530*1#
• 3 GB: 50 PLN, activation: *111*537*1#

To check remaining data, call *575#. From 27.06.2019 Play also offers data roaming packages outside EU zone, all vaid 14 days: 

• 2 packages for Belarus, Bosna and Herzegovina, China, Montenegro, Egypt, Israel, Russia, Serbia, USA, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey and Ukraine:

• Package for UAE: 150 MB - 60 PLN: *111*882*1#

To check remaining data, call *580# (2 packages) or *584# (UAE package). This document shows in which network package works, on UAE package works on du network.  If you use up allowcances outside EU/EEA zone, data transmission will be blocked. Orange Polska

2G and 3G, 4G/LTE (on 800, 1800, 2100, 2600 MHz): Orange Coverage Map good coverage in Poland. LTE is open for prepaid and covers already 99.85% of population in 2018 with speeds up to 600 Mbps. Orange used to be the market leader with the best coverage and speeds until 2017 when it was overtaken by Play.

Orange has network sharing with T-Mobile called NetWorks! - Both operators are building a common cellular network (UMTS 900 MHz and LTE 1800 MHz) and subscribers can use both networks base stations (that is not equal to domestic roaming, but basically Orange and T-Mobile subscribers are sharing the same antennas).

Orange na kartę

Availability

As your SIM card needs to be registered to be activated, buy the SIM in an official store or outlet. If you have bought it at other places, check this manual in English how and where to register.

The best way is to buy a Orange Free na kartę starter. This starter packs is sold at 5 PLN with 6 GB included valid 14 days, at 7 PLN with 7 GB included valid 30 days and at 20 PLN with 50 GB included valid 14 days plus starter price as credit. The 5 PLN starter pack in Żabka exclusively offers 15 GB valid 14 days. 

If it's not available you can buy any Orange prepaid starter like Yes or Smart plans for 5 PLN. It contains 6 GB for 14 days plus the start-up credit, but this tariffs will be discounted and you'll be automaticly after activation moved to Orange Free. Buy it in an Orange store or at a place where they can register it on your name. Many stores nationwide can do the registration for Orange. There is also available starter pack for 30 PLN with included 15 GB, auto-renewal offer for 25 PLN and 5 PLN intial credit. It has better regulations for new users. 

You can also transfer an nju SIM to Orange by texting their PUK no. to 80512.

Top-up vouchers are widely available in supermarkets, newsstands, petrol stations, grocery stores, ATMs, ticket vending machines. For top-up type: *125*<top-up code>#

You can still use the airtime from top-up for making calls, texting, transferring additional data (at 0.01 PLN for 100 kB) or buying additional packages (see below). If you top-up before ending another package, data will roll over to the new package.   

You can extend validity of your allocated bonuses. To extend validity, call: 

• + 7 days for 3 PLN: *101*7#
• + 31 days for 9 PLN: *101*31#
• + 365 days for 30 PLN: *101*365#.

If validity of your bonus internet is over, you can get back your bonuses, if you top-up at 7 days after end of validity. 

When overused in all of packages and bonuses, speed will be throttled to 64 kbps. You can deactivate this speed limit by sending a free SMS to 80733 with 'STOP LEJEK'. Then, you'll be charged by the default rate instead.

To stop auto-renew type *101*1*0#. If overused, speed will be throttled to 64 kbps. You can activate 5 GB for 5 PLN (EU cap: 420 MB), when you receive a instruction for activation. This add-on package is valid to the end of main package. All unused allowcances will be deleted at the end of validity in once-off and auto-renew version.

Another situation is for old users (SIM activated before 19 September 2019) or for new users, which'll buy 30 PLN starter pack with cyclic offer. There is some better regulations for data (roll-over internet + 1 GB bonus for auto-reneval) for low price but without MMS. These packages was the most popular before some changes in offer:

Data usage order

Firstly, the promotion budle (like 5 GB for top-up online) will be used, secondly top-up bonus, next Elastyczny Pakiet Internetowy and the last all-in-one package. 

Zawsze bez limitu (Always unlimited)

This offer started in July 2019. Thre is another rules to normal prepaid line. The starter pack cost 5 PLN (with Zawsze bez limitu po doładowaniu on front) or you can move your existing SIM card by calling *130*11#. To change tariff you must have 5 PLN or more in your account, but if you buy a new starter pack, you must top-up at least 5 PLN to activate it. 

All your current balance and future top-ups is converting to "unlimited days". Basic rule is: 1 PLN = 1 day of unlimited calls, SMS/MMS (domnestic only) and 500 MB (with 90 MB EU cap). These top-ups are available:

eSIM

Orange starts to offer eSIMs for compatible devices (officially it supports Apple iPhone Xs, Xs Max, Xr and Apple Watch 4 Cellular, unofficially works also on Pixel 3, 3 XL). To get an eSIM, buy normal starter pack, on computer login to Mój Orange and find Plan taryfowy i karta SIM. Then select Akcje, next Wymień kartę, accept regulations, enter authorization code from SMS and scan QR code. You can also change your SIM by visiting Orange shops. Max. 5 changes from SIM to eSIM (or eSIM to eSIM) per month are free, after they'll cost 25 PLN for each change. You can change eSIM card to normal SIM card by buying normal starter pack (up to 15 PLN, don't register it) and go to Mój Orange. Cost changing SIM card is 15 PLN minus cost of starter pack. Changing SIM card in Orange shops cost 25 PLN. 

Orange Flex

Orange's new plan Flex competes with Play Next (see Play above). It was launched in May 2019 and similar to Play Next it offers hybrid prepaid plans.

To get the SIM card, first download free app available on Google Play and App Store. Then create a personal account, click on Wybierz swój plan (choose your plan) and click on Nie, chcę wybrać nowy numer (no, I want new number). Click on Nie, zamów kartę SIM (no, I don't have SIM card) and choose delivery. The best option is delivery to Orange shop, but if you have a device, which supports eSIMs, you can add it as eSIM card. There is also available starter packs in same shops as normal starter packs. After click Tak, mam kartę SIM (yes, I have SIM card) and scan QR code. Next verify your identity by taking photo of your ID and photo with your face. After verification photos will be deleted. Next you can choose to receive information about your account. Next accept regulations and verify your account. Then link your credit card to app (foreign cards are accepted) and activate your plan by pressing Aktywuj teraz! (activate now). Orange also publics video on YouTube , which shows steps to activate it. You can also transfer your Orange SIM, but you can't go back easily - migrate your number to another operator and migrate to Orange after. 

Plans

These plans are valid for 30 days and all include unlimited calls, SMS and MMS: 

• 25 PLN: 15 GB (EU cap: 2.09 GB)
• 30 PLN: 30 GB (EU cap: 2.51 GB)
• 50 PLN: 50 GB (EU cap: 4.18 GB)
• 80 PLN: 100 GB (EU cap: 6.68 GB)

If overused, your speed will be throttled to 64 kbps. You can migrate to bigger package or buy data feature packages: 

• 1 GB - 3 PLN
• 5 GB - 10 PLN
• 10 GB - 15 PLN

All packages include a Social Pass, which you can use Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, Twitter, Pinterest, Messenger, WhatsApp and Viber without debiting your data (includes also VoIP and pictures/images/videos on apps). You can also add another passes to your account, which can be used only in Poland:

• Music Pass: Tidal, Deezer, Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Music, Polskie Radio - 5 PLN/30 days (EU cap: 420 MB)
• Video Pass: YouTube, Netflix, HBO GO, vod.pl, Orange TV Go - 5 PLN/day (EU cap: 420 MB), 10 PLN/7days (EU cap: 840 MB), 20 PLN/month (EU cap: 1.67 GB). 

Also passes will work, if you use-up your data. On some websites users reports the same video/music quality before and after using up allowcances without any problems. 

You can buy additional SIM card with the same number cost 9 PLN/month. You can choose, which type of card want you - normal SIM card or data-only SIM. This SIM shares plan and mobile number with main SIM card.  Orange Flex app can be used for free (without debiting your data or if you run out of data), also in roaming. You can give part of your internet package to another person with Orange Flex, but you can't share all of your data (it must be 1 GB remaing data left).

You can terminate your plan by pressing Zakończ mój plan. For 6 months your numer will be blocked, but you can re-enact your subscription. After that your SIM card will be terminated. 

nju mobile

Nju mobile is the second brand of Orange in Poland and like Plush by Plus aimed at young people. It's not a MVNO, but an Orange subsidiary. They often have better promotions than the original Orange brand.

Availability

Starter packs in mini and micro sizes are available in all Orange stores and further outlets. There are starters for 4, 5 or 20 PLN, each with the same credit pre-loaded valid for 30 days. Do the registration there (registration points).

Starters are from 4-20 PLN giving different amounts of bonuses depending on promotion. You will normally end up with some GB and some more PLN even on the smaller starter packs. 4 and 5 PLN starter packs include 10 GB valid 15 days. You can also transfer an Orange SIM to nju by texting their PUK no. to 80511.

You can top-up nju mobile with regular Orange vouchers but you have to type *128*<top-up code># (on vouchers are only information for regular Orange top-up rules). 

If you top-up 100 PLN or more, you'll get extra credit: 

• Top-up 100 PLN - you'll get extra 10 PLN

• Top-up 200 PLN - you'll get extra 30 PLN

Nju is one of the few brands whose topped up credit stays valid forever. You are only supposed to make one recharge per half year to keep your SIM plan alive. Check balance by calling *127*1#. You can manage your account by application, available in Google Play (not for iOS devices). 

Voice and data SIM

Default rate without a daily or weekly plan or a data pack is 0.19 PLN per MB. Nju has daily and monthly combo plans with calls, texts and data:

• daily plans (based on one calendar day): wszystko komórkowe: 250 MB per day (110 MB in the EU), unlimited  calls and SMS capped at 1.20 PLN. Activation: *127*67# for 6 PLN. For more data you can add the 9 GB package (see below). First activation is free, following activations costs 6 PLN. 
• monthly plans for 30 days:
  • Rozmowy za nie więcej niż 19 zł: included unlimited calls only capped at 19 PLN . Data can be added for another 19 PLN: 3 GB (in EU: 1.58 GB). Activation: *127*66#
  • Wszystko komórkowe: 10 GB per month (2.43 GB in the EU) and unlimited calls and SMS to Poland and the EU: 29 PLN. Activation: *127*63#. 

If overuse, speed will be throttled to 64 kbps. You can deactivate speed limit, by sending text START to 80605. All data will be charged at default rate. You can also come back to speed limit, by sending STOP to 80605. 

Data feature package

NJU offers a 9 GB data package (capped at 760 MB in the EU) for 9 PLN with full LTE speed. This can be activated by *127*69# or texting 'AKT' to 80355. Check package balance by *127*69*1#. This package is for 31 days and will not auto-renew. You can activate 9 GB only, if you didn't use package in plans or if you use up allowances. Package can rollover, if you buy new one before end of validity an older. 

"Im dłużej tym lepiej" (= the longer the better)

This promotion can be activated, by sending a SMS with the word 'START' for 80510. The amount of GB depends on how long you have stayed with the network:

• from 6 months to 1 year: double data
• from 1 year to 2 years: 2.5 times data
• from 2 years: triple data

Package cost and EU cap don't change. The promotion does not apply to the 9 GB package.

VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling

Orange has IMS deployed, which means that VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling are offered, but can't be used outside of Poland (except Orange Flex). To use VoWIFI in Poland, you must have a compatible, configured device such as iPhone 5S and later. 

EU roaming (surcharges for prepaid apply)

Orange has received approval from the regulator to opt out from the Roam like at Home scheme and changed the rules for EU roaming (only for prepaid users). From 19th May 2019 applies surcharge of 0.00188 PLN/MB (=1.89 PLN/GB) for any roaming data up to RLAH cap (mentioned in the article according to this list ). For data use beyond this cap and all permanent roaming of more than 4 months an additional surcharge of 0.0234 PLN per MB (= 23.96 PLN/GB) is applied.  You can check remaining EU cap by sending SMS with ILE to 8095. There is also speed limit in roaming to 15 Mb/s. 

You can also buy new 1 GB package for EU/EEA countries valid 7 days for 15 PLN. To activate, call *130*31#. To check remaining data, dial *130*32#. Data package can roll-over with newer package.

In contrast to prepaid offer, in Orange Flex you can use your EU cap without surcharges and on full speed. But if you want use more than your limit, you can buy EU data packages: 

• 500 MB - 8 PLN
• 1 GB - 15 PLN

You can also top-up your standing balance to use Internet in EU zone. But if you want use Orange Flex outside EU zone, you need to buy special roaming package:

Plus (by Polkomtel)

Plus (formerly Plus GSM) is the brand name of Poland's mobile phone network operator Polkomtel. The company is entirely owned by Spartan Capital Holdings sp. z o.o. Plus uses LTE base stations from Aero2, because its own Plus LTE coverage have been limited (mostly up to 3G/HSPA+)

For 4G/LTE these frequencies from Plus and partners are employed together:

• Plus: 900 MHz (B8), 1800 MHz (B3), 2100 MHz (B1) and 2600 MHz (B7)
• Aero2: 900 MHz (B8), 1800 MHz (B3), 2600 MHz (B7) and TDD-LTE 2600 MHz (B38)

From 2019 Plus/Aero2 will also add TDD-LTE 2600 MHz (B38) to boost coverage and speed. Summing up, Plus has a good coverage throughout the country on 2G and 3G while their 4G/LTE network already covers 99% right now: Plus Coverage Map. 4G/LTE (called LTE PLUS) is available on prepaid cards with speeds up to 150 Mbps. LTE-Advanced (called LTE PLUS ADVANCED) is available for 73% of Polish population, is open for prepaid with speeds up to 300 Mbps. Plus is the local Vodafone partner.

Currently Plus has the slowest 4G network compared with other operators. The operator hasn't modernized its network by adding frequences to base stations. Their network is still based on Aero2's 1800 and 900 MHz predominantly. Additionally, many MVNOs run on Plus (these MVNOs can't be listed) with very big data packages at quite low price. The result is that network tends to be overcrowded and you have slow speeds (about 0.5 - 10 Mbps usually). 

From January 2019 Plus has lost its license of 4G/LTE on band 20 (800 MHz). If you have a device, which doesn't work on band 8 (900 MHz) in 4G instead, you'll be downgraded to 2G/3G network in rural areas. 

Plus na kartę

Availability

To register you need to go to a store of the operator (locator) and show your ID or ask at a kiosk before buying, if they are able to register it on a foreign passport. Starters are sold from 5 PLN with different bonuses and credits (see below).

Plus offers additional registration at 1,300 Plus or Cyfrowy Polsat outlets, 270 Neonet shops, 1,800 Ruch kiosks, 4,600 post offices and many other points shown on this map.

Top-ups are available at Plus stores, service stations, kiosks, grocery stores or online using credit cards. To top-up by vouchers, type *123*<voucher PIN>#. To check balance and validity, type *100#.

Starter packs

Plus sell these two major options: 

• Prosto na Kartę (= Basic prepaid): for 5 PLN
• Elastyczna na kartę (= Elastic prepaid) with three other starter packs:

Prosto na kartę

This plan have a common base rate for 1 MB, min or SMS in Poland and the EU at 0.19 PLN. All top-ups are valid for 1 year. You can change to this plan by *147*26#. Only one data option can be added:

T-Mobile Polska

T-Mobile in Poland has a best coverage in Poland on 2G, 3G and 4G/LTE: coverage map (for LTE scroll). 4G/LTE is open for prepaid and covers 99.7% of population in 2017 already. On the majority of 4G base stations LTE Advanced is available to compatible devices at no extra cost. LTE-A in a T-Mobile can offer up to 300 Mbit/s of download speed.

Before 2011 it used to be a second operator in Poland, but after rebranding to "T-Mobile.pl" (from "Era") and during period with disappointing offers compared to other operators, it started losing customers. Currently it has least market share.

It has the best coverage and quality of network in Poland (after Play). T-Mobile has a union with Orange Polska to improve infrastructure called NetWorks! - T-Mobile and Orange are building cellular network together (UMTS 900 MHz and LTE 1800 MHz) that subscribers can use both networks base stations (that is not equal to domestic roaming, but basically T-Mobile and Orange subscribers are using the same antennas).

They sell three prepaid starter packs for 5 PLN in their stores (locator):

• T-Mobile na kartę: their voice & data SIM for 5 PLN with:
  • "unlimited per day" package included (with Tylko najlepsza oferta on front)

• Internet na kartę: their data-only SIM for 5 PLN with 7 GB valid for 7 days preloaded (with Do 111 GB po doładowaniu od front)

Voice and data SIM - T-Mobile na kartę

Default data rate is based on Safe Internet: first 10 MB at 3 PLN, next 90 MB at 6 PLN, then speed throtted to 16 kb/s. You can also increase your Safe Internet by next 150 MB at 3 PLN by calling *125*7*19#. You can also deactive Safe Internet by calling *125*7*9#, but is not recommended, because default data rate is 0.10 PLN/MB. If you disable it before, you can reactivate it, by calling *125*7*8#.  They offer four different "unlimited" plans with speed limited to 15 Mbit/s for download and upload. All includes one year credit valid:

• "unlimited" per day: 1 PLN including all domestic calls, SMS and 300 MB (90 MB in EU) data per calendar day until midnight. Rate is not charged if there are no calls, SMS or less than 5 MB data use. To activate, type *140*296#. (*140*296*1# to disable) For more data until midnight you can add:

Be aware, speed is limited to 1.5 Mbps in these applications and if overuse basic data package, speed will be throttled to 16 kbps also in these apps. Package can be also activated once, by calling *150*155*2# (5 PLN/5 days). 

Data SIM - Internet na kartę

This data-only SIM is intended for modems and tablets, but you can use in smartphones. Starter pack for 5 PLN includes 7 GB valid 7 days. This prepaid plan can't be changed from other plan and can't be managed by Mój T-Mobile app.

Default data rate is 0.10 PLN/MB. Top-up includes bonus data (bonus is valid as long as account stays active plus 31 days in passive mod, data can roll-over, if you top-up before package has expired):

Heyah

Heyah is a long established subsidiary of T-Mobile. 

Availability

Heyah prepaid SIM cards are available for 5 PLN (or discounted for 3 PLN) including the same credit valid for 7 days at T-Mobile stores and many other places. Better go to a T-Mobile store for registration. 

You can also transfer your T-Mobile SIM (from Frii) by calling *100*812#. Change tariff cost 3 PLN. 

To manage your account in Heyah, you can use Moja Heyah application available in Google Play . 

Top-ups can be made by T-Mobile vouchers or online. To top-up by voucher, type *109*<PIN code>#, check balance by *108#. 

Default data rate is 0.20 PLN/MB. Better option is buy data feature pack. 

Combo feature packs

Heyah offer are based on the same offer as T-Mobile, speed is limited to 15 Mbit/s. They only sell one base option:

• 25 PLN: 30 days unlimited calls and SMS/MMS, 10 GB data (EU cap: 2.14 GB), activation: *150*159*2#.

tuBiedronka is another long established subsidiary of T-Mobile. Biedronka is the largest supermarket chain in the country.

Availability

tuBiedronka prepaid SIM cards are available for 4 PLN including the 5 PLN credit valid for 14 days at T-Mobile stores and Biedronka shops. You can register your SIM card in a Biedronka or in a T-Mobile store. 

Top-ups can be made in Biedronka shops (for 5 PLN (5 days), 10 PLN (21 days), 20 PLN (45 days), 30 PLN (60 days)). To top-up by voucher, type *111*<PIN code>#, check balance by *101#. 

Default data rate is 0.10 PLN/MB. 

Top-up bonus

To activate top-ups bonus, call *140*730*2#. Top-ups includes these bonus (all valid 30 days, if you top-up before end of another package, data will be rollover with new package): 

• top-up: 20-29.99 PLN: 5 GB bonus 
• top-up: >30 PLN: 10 GB bonus 

Bonuses can't be used for roaming. Bonus works on 2G and 3G network only. Data feature packages are the same as T-Mobile (see above). 

VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling

T-Mobile provides IMS as well; which means that VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling are available, however, not for prepaid accounts at the moment, only for postpaid plans.

EU roaming (surcharges apply)

T-Mobile has received approval from the regulator to opt out from the Roam like at Home scheme and changed the rules for EU roaming again. From 19th May 2019 a surcharge of 0.0039 PLN/MB (= 4 PLN/GB) is now charged for any roaming data up to the RLAH cap (mentioned in the article according to this list ).

For all data use beyond this cap and all permanent roaming of more than 4 months an additional surcharge of 0.0234 PLN/MB (= 23.38 PLN/GB) is applied. T-Mobile also sells "Travel & Surf" roaming packs as add-ons to all prepaid plans (except Internet na kartę), that include the non-EU countries of Albania, Montenegro and Macedonia as well as all of EU/EEA:

Lycamobile

The UK-based operator Lycamobile opened its Polish branch in 2011. It's operating as MVNO on the Plus network in 2G, 3G and 4G/LTE speeds up to 300 Mbps but signal has been routed via British servers with poor routing, why users reports slow speed and big latency. For coverage check Plus (see above).

Availability

Their SIM cards are available for free in micro-, mini- or nano size in their outlets. They have many agencies around the country in newsstands, kiosks, supermarkets and online sent to a Polish address. But better buy it in one of their sales outlets, where they can register it on your name.

Top-ups can be purchased there as well in 5, 10, 20, 30, 50 and 100 PLN denominations. You are expected to make a top-up right away, as the SIM doesn't include credit. It's valid for only 6 months without being recharged.

Top-ups are also available online. Foreign credit cards are accepted. The website has an English option too. When topping up, you will be asked for an ID number and a local address. The ID can be a PESEL (Poland national ID) or any other ID. You can use your passport number and your hotel address.

a2mobile

In 2018 Premium Mobile bought a2mobile from Cyfrowy Polsat.

Premium Mobile is a MVNO running on Plus/aero2 network in 2G, 3G and 4G/LTE up to 300 Mbps, which offers contracts for an indefinite period, but is not available for tourists. a2mobile is a prepaid offer of Premium Mobile.

Availability

The SIM starter packs is available online and at some stores (locator ). The SIM can be registered at these points too. They sell a starter pack for 10 PLN valid for 1 year with 10 PLN pre-loaded.

To top-up you can use any Plus and a2mobile voucher. To top-up with an a2mobile voucher, enter *111*<voucher code>#, to top-up with a Plus voucher, enter *123*<voucher code>#. All top-ups are valid for one year. To check balance, call *111#. There is available free app, called moje.a2mobile. Is available on Google Play (not for iOS devices so far). 

Data feature packages

Default rate is 0.04 PLN per MB. You can buy "unexhausted" packages valid for 31 days:

Klucz mobile

Klucz mobile is another MVNO on the Plus network (see above). It started in 2013 and has very cheap international call rates and data too. 2G, 3G and finally 4G/LTE (up to 300 Mbps) is accessible with new SIM cards given out now.

Availablility

Their SIM card may be hard to find. That's why they publish this list of outlets: Klucz Mobile Sales Points. All Teletorium phone stores sell it too. The SIM is for free and credit stays alive for 360 days. Starter packs can be registered in these points and in Plus stores.

To change service language, compose USSD code *105*20# and wait for confirmation SMS.

Virgin Mobile

Virgin Mobile started as MVNO in Poland in 2012. It uses the Play network on 2G, 3G and 4G/LTE up to 70 Mbps where available. In national roaming (on Orange (LTE) and T-Mobile (3G)) speed is limited to 30 Mb/s. Virgin Mobile uses own IP backbone and own billing system. 

Availability

Their starter packs are available online or in a lot of stores: Virgin mobile Store Locator for 5 PLN. Better go to a store, where they can register it on your name.

Top-ups can be made online after registration by international credit card or PayPal too. Special Virgin mobile top-up vouchers (called Telekod) are available at supermarkets. Play vouchers don't work for Virgin, even though the top-up command *100*<code># looks the same. Credit stays alive for one year. Check balance by *101#.

You can manage your account by free app, called "Klub Virgin". Is available on Google Play, App Store and Microsoft Store.

In bonus after registeration of card, you'll receive 10 GB for 30 days for free.

PolishWiFi rents pocket WiFi routers which allow travellers to stay connected in Poland. PolishWiFi uses Play networks.

Clients can book online and their hotspot can be delivered everywhere in Poland in 24 hours. Standard delivery in Poland to a post box is 3 €, to a private address, hotel, B&B or airport is 4 €.

The 3G and 4G hotspot routers can be shared by up to 10 devices and battery lasts for 6 hours.

A prepaid envelope is given for the return and can be used from everywhere in Poland. 45 € for a 3G device and 100 € for a 4G device is charged from your credit card, if you don't return or damage the device. The rental rates:
